It’s MOOCOW – MOOers Case Of the Week – time!
This case was supposed to be easy. Most are. A business owner wanted to insure his spouse with a clean, simple, relatively small term policy. She was perfectly healthy. The application got to our office on a Monday.
She did her exam, and an APS was ordered. We argued, unsuccessfully, to get it waived—but we followed up every other day, and the records came in a week later. Her medical records showed an elevated glucose reading and a low White Blood Cell count from her most recent visit, only a month before. She was to have followed up with new tests but hadn’t yet.
We contacted the carrier, wondering (kindly) why they could not use their OWN DARN LABS to get the case issued. Here is the response from the underwriter, with an approval within 3 weeks:
The labs we have do not include WBC’s. And, the labs we have were analyzed a week after they were drawn rendering several lab results, especially glucose, useless. We don’t know what her current glucose is. Next time tell your examiner not to keep the specimen in the trunk of her car for a week.
Having said that, I will have it approved at preferred best.
I love this one.
