In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, H.D. Mooers brings you what just might be our favorite case. Ever.
A young (24), single female student—we’ll call her Amanda– applied for some life insurance. We weren’t sure why, frankly.
We got her medical records, and she has a personal history of Crohn’s Disease, so she was looking Standard at best.
And she has an extensive family history of breast cancer—with both her mother and her grandmother, INCLUDING the existence of the highly hereditary BRCA gene.
To date, Amanda has refused to be tested for the BRCA gene. Know why? Because she’s SCARED, that’s why. She has her WHOLE WORLD ahead of her. And she hopes that will include a long and healthy life, with children of her own. She is simply not yet ready to know if her future will likely include treatment for breast cancer. And we, for one, don’t blame her.
